The Mexican Heart Does Not Remain Fully Dressed
"Y este corazón se desnuda de impaciencia ante tu voz."
In English, we might say: my heart becomes impatient.
But this heart undresses. It removes its protection. It stands exposed before the sound of another person's voice.
That image helps explain something I have felt in Mexican music.
Love is rarely presented as tidy or emotionally safe. It is surrender. Longing. Jealousy. Devotion. Humiliation. Hope.
The heart is not a well-managed organ. It is a character that disobeys, remembers and reveals too much.
There is courage in that lack of emotional armour. To love deeply is to risk being seen without protection.
Perhaps Mexico smiles not because the heart is guarded, but because it is still willing to open after everything it has endured.
