"¿Ya Comiste?" Is How Mexico Says "You Matter"

"México es saludar con un '¿Ya comiste?' y saber que es una forma de decir 'me importas.'"

Greeting someone with 'Have you eaten?' and knowing it means 'you matter to me.'

The first time someone asked me, "¿Ya comiste?", I answered the question.

Eventually I realized they weren't asking about food. They were checking on me.

In Mexico, caring often sounds practical. Did you eat? Did you get home? Text me when you arrive.

Love isn't always expressed with big words.

Sometimes, it's making sure someone isn't hungry.
